Preventative care is focusing on measures that keep your pet from developing disease before it becomes irreversible. This involves regular visits to your veterinarian who can look closely at your pet and see signs of impending problems before you are aware of them, and before disease processes are well established. Often this means we can stop these processes and make your pet more comfortable quickly, extend their lives, and save your pocketbook from more expensive diagnostics and treatments. Examples of preventative care include diagnosing dental disease that can shorten your pet’s life, finding abdominal tumors that weren’t obvious to their owners and getting them out, making sure your pet doesn’t carry excess pounds that are scientifically proven to take years of his/her life and many other parameters that might sneak up and cause problems. At The Stock Doc, we strongly believe in the adage “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.
