The EKG is a non-invasive test that records the electrical activity in a dog’s heart and does not require sedation or anesthesia. It is a test that is performed by attaching small contact electrodes to the limbs and chest wall. It is the test of choice for diagnosing abnormal heart rhythms and can be useful for identification of heart enlargement or drug effects on the heart. The EKG can be a complementary examination to the stethoscope exam, chest x-ray and ultrasound. At The Stock Doc we have both the equipment and skilled staff to administer and interpret the EKG.
